Well, camp is in full swing, and we are about to start week 4 tomorrow. It's crazy to think about how fast this is all happening. It's making me sad that it's going by so fast. I'll miss this place when I leave on August 15th. A lot of life has been lived within the past month. I've learned a lot about myself and am still learning. I still have no idea why I was brought all the way to Minnesota for the summer. It's something I've been wrestling with a lot the past few days. What is God trying to teach me here? Why was I brought thousands of miles from home for a whole summer? Maybe I really won't know until I am finished.
For now, here's a recap:
Week one: Andy's Gang. 5th, 6th, and 7th graders.
I had 10 girls in my cabin. They were all a lot of fun and well behaved. I loved having each and every one of them in my cabin. I had one of the older cabins, which was nice. It was difficult getting back into the swing of counseling. I questioned why I decided to do this for another summer quite a bit just because I was so tired all the time. All in all, it was a great week.
Week two: Andy's Gang. 3rd, 4th, and one 6th grader.
I had 11 girls week two. It was definitely a more challenging week. I had one of the youngest cabins, and they were really challenging, too. I found it very hard to connect with any of them because I felt like I was constantly telling them not to do something. I was exhausted after this week was over and it took a lot to recover.
Week three. Night watch.
The third week I was on night watch. With it being the 4th of July we had a short week. So we did half blast. I didn't counsel because I had counseled two weeks in a row and needed a break. While on night watch you basically patrol the camp grounds and make sure the kids are all where they are supposed to be, and that everything is safe. You start when the kids go to bed at 10:15 and finish at 2 A.M. It was only two nights that I had to do it so it wasn't too difficult. I've felt like I've had a whole week off pretty much because I didn't work much this week.
Well, week four will bring me to Clearwater, MN for day camp. I'm looking forward to it.
