weekend adventures.

This past weekend was a good one.
It didn't include homework, or worrying about homework.
It did include spending time with my most favorite step-sister, though.
Seriously...the girl is the best ever.

I hadn't seen her since before I left for the summer, so her visit was long over due. We decided that we would have a girls day out while she was here, and that's just what we did.

First we went to Target, then we made a stop at Starbucks where I tried pumpkin spice for the first time. Sadly, I'm not a believer. It was just way too sweet, and too pumpkiny (is that even a word?) for my liking. Sad news.
Then we drove around randomly, just because we could, and ran into this butterfly garden in the middle of nowhere. We seriously spent at least an hour there exploring and taking photos. It was the best!

I love Sarah. There is seriously no one that can make me laugh harder than that girl can. I'm grateful for her.

What did you do with your weekend?

  1. I made a trip to Arkansas, land of my family. I ate one of my grandma's wonderful home-cooked meals Friday night.

On Saturday, we met my other grandparents (my dad's parents) for breakfast at Denny's. Then they came out to my other grandma's house with us, and one of my grandma's cousins and her husband also dropped by for a visit. We all had a grand time talking to each other and catching up. That afternoon, we went across the street to my recently deceased great aunt and uncle's house. Most of their possessions are being divided amongst the family, everybody taking what they want. My grandma got a lot of their furniture, so we helped her rearrange her house to make room and brought it all in to the house. Then my parents and I were able to find some things of my aunt and uncle's that we wanted to take. It's nice to have a few pieces from their lives to remember them by. That evening, my grandma's best friend, who is like a grandma to me, came over with her two grandkids, who are like surrogate cousins, and we all ate dinner together. I made cookies. After dinner, my aunt (mom's sister) and her best friend, who also happens to be the daughter of my grandma's best friend and the kids' mom, came over and talked with us for a while.

On Sunday we went to my grandma's church, the church I was born into. It was homecoming, so everybody brought food to eat after the service. We all ate too much. Then we spent a long time singing. All kinds of people got up and sang songs, even people who were back for the first time in years. My aunt sang a song and almost made me cry. A lot of families sang together, including mine. I sang a Lanae' Hale song by myself, my mom and I sang a Jason Gray song together, and my mom, my dad and I sang a downhere song together. After we left the church, we went to a restaurant to sit and talk with some dear sweet friends before we left town. We were there for at least three hours. It was infinitely encouraging.

After that we headed home and made it back here just before midnight yesterday.

    I miss them already.

  2. Lets see... I went to Atlanta to visit MarySue, met up with a couple Downhomies for lunch, went to see Downhere lead worship at a collegiate conference (very good!), had a very reassuring conversation with Jason about wedding plans, investigated a church we are considering joining once I move where they had a newcomers dinner, and then had an interview in Atlanta for a job. All in all not a bad weekend :-)
